MONKS RISBOROUGH CE PRIMARY SCHOOL
NEWSLETTER 9 31st JANUARY 2008
Dear Parents,
This term is another very busy one, and one in which we again will be working hard to provide the best possible education for your child. Can I remind you of the importance of your support with homework, whether it is hearing your child read, discussing the texts they encounter, assisting with number bonds or tables practice, or by talking through homework tasks with them – if your child can see that their school work is valued at home, then they will strive hard to achieve all that they can. Thank you for your assistance with this.
Race Night
Tickets are still available for the Friends Race Night on 9th February. Please try and attend - it should be a lot of fun, we will raise funds for the Playground Equipment, and you might even leave richer than when you arrived (though I wouldn’t bet on it). Tickets are available from Class Reps or other Committee members in the playground after school. If you are unable to attend you still have the option of buying a horse for the evening (From £5). There is a cash prize for the owner of each winning horse. We look forward to taking your money!
Early Birds
We have some children who are arriving in school before 8.30. I applaud their enthusiasm but must point out that there is nobody on duty to supervise them before that time and that they are therefore vulnerable if there is an accident or they come to harm in some way. Please do not drop your child off before 8.30 unless they are coming in to school early for a specific and planned activity (e.g. RM Maths). For the same reasons, can you please take your children home promptly at the end of the day unless they are staying for an after-school club.
Country Dance
Thank you to those parents who have kindly made a donation towards the cost of new Country Dance skirts. We welcome further donations towards the cost of materials from other Country Dance enthusiasts. Please send in your donation to the school office, labelled Country Dance, if you would like to contribute. Thank you.
Year 5 Energise
Our Year 5 class will be participating in this year’s Energise performance at the Wycombe Swan on the evenings of 12th and 14th March. (We are not involved on the other two nights). These are collaborative performances put on by a number of schools in the Wycombe area and involving over 1000 local children. It is always an exciting event and we hope you are able to join us. Tickets are available to the public from the Wycombe Swan box office. Performances start at 7pm.
Reception to Tesco
Unfortunately we have had a lot of absence through illness in our Reception Class this week, and Mrs Kingham therefore decided to postpone the visit to Tesco until 26th February, when we hope we will have the complete class in school. We will carry permission slips forward to the 26th unless you contact us.
Thank You
Thank you for your generosity in not requesting a refund for the overcharging of the trip to the Juniors’ Pantomime. All monies will be put towards the cost of the author visit (see below).
Book Week
This year’s Book Week will run from Monday 3rd March to Friday 7th March. An undoubted highlight will be the visit of the author Adam Guillian who will once again spark the children’s interest and enthusiasm and help them to better understand the creative writing process. The Book Fair will also be available every day after school for those wanting to add to their children’s book collections.
Parent Governor Vacancy
We currently have a vacancy for a Parent Governor, and will have another one to start from September. Please consider taking up this rewarding role. The accompanying letter gives more information and includes a nomination form.
Photo Consent
Please return the attached Using Images of Children form to enable us to update our records. These forms are valid for 5 years, but you can always contact us if you would like to change your consent details. Thank you.
As always, please contact me if you have any queries or concerns about anything to do with your child’s education.
Yours sincerely
Stephen Nunn
